10 Views of Iconic Sydney Opera House

The iconic Sydney Opera House is one of the world’s most famous architectural wonders and one of Australia’s most visited attractions. It was granted UNESCO World Heritage Status in 2007, being considered a human masterpiece. Designed by Dutch architect Jorn Ulzon, The Opera House was completed in 1973 after 16 years of construction.

The gorgeous building is set on its own platform jutting into the vast Sydney Harbor surrounded by water on three sides. It’s located adjacent to Sydney’s lush Royal Botanic Gardens and Circular Quay, the city’s main ferry port. The building’s sweeping exterior staircase serves as both pedestrian walkway and outdoor event venue.

Its prominent location allows stunning views of its majestic form from vantage points all over the city and harbor. Perhaps the best panoramic views are from the far end of Sydney Harbor Bridge. Beautiful close-up views can be taken from Circular Quay, the Opera House steps and the Botanic Gardens.

To accommodated the millions of curious visitors the Opera House offers seven different interior tours, the most popular tour offered regularly in six languages.

As beautiful as the architecture is, however, the building’s real purpose is as concert hall. The Opera House presents an ever-flowing series of operas, musicals, symphonies, dance performances, plays, talks and educational events. To fully appreciate the phenomenal Sydney Opera House, visitors should attend a performance if at all possible during their stay in Sydney.
