Merry Christmas 2016!

Christmas presents under treeMerry Christmas everyone!

Where are you celebrating Christmas this year? And with whom?

I almost always celebrate Christmas out on the road, in some far-flung country or the other. I’ve celebrated Christmases on tropical beaches, in major cities, on remote islands, at campgrounds and in upscale resorts in at least 10 different countries around the world. In fact, I’ve been enjoying solo Christmases on the road almost every year since 1998!

Last year I spent Christmas at the quaint Guatemalan seaside fishing village of Livingston. Two years ago I celebrated on the chilly South Island of New Zealand. In 2013 I was wandering around India’s remote tropical Andaman Islands. In 2012 I luxuriated at one of my favorite upscale resorts in Bali. Prior to that for several years I celebrated at Tonsai Beach, Thailand, while teaching scuba diving.

For the past two weeks I’ve been having a grand ole time doing traditional Christmas preparations – setting up and decorating a tree, wrapping presents and placing them under said tree, baking special Xmas cookies, listening to Xmas music, writing & sending Xmas cards to relatives and friends. So far, it’s been a blast!

In fact, we’re almost ready for Christmas here at my mom and step-dad’s house. All that’s left to do is buy groceries and cook for Christmas day. Well, actually for Christmas Eve Day. We’re celebrating all day on Saturday, Dec. 24th instead of the 25th.

I’m sure we’ll all have fun gorging on festive meals and decorative cookies before opening presents stashed under the tree.

I hope you have an equally wonderful time at Christmas this year!

Merry, Merry Christmas 2016!
