New Zealand is most famous for its divine outdoor scenery. Incredibly diverse, NZ has soaring snow-capped mountains, glaciers, fjords, beaches, dense rain forests, cliff-lined coastlines and supremely clear lakes and rivers.

But that’s not all that New Zealand offers. Like most countries, NZ has its special quirks, unique sites and unusual places.

In 2014 I spent six months traveling around NZ’s South and North Islands. I explored the great outdoors as well as towns, cities and rural farm areas. I took buses, hitch-hiked and caught rides with locals.

I stayed with many locals and at a few city hostels. I hiked and camped in national parks. I befriended both New Zealanders and foreign travelers.

Throughout my extensive travels I enjoyed many quirky, bizarre, unique and fun experiences.
