Dali Museum – St Petersburg, Florida

St Petersburg, Florida is proud home of the Salvador Dali Museum, one of the largest retrospective collections of a single artist-in the entire world.

If you’re wondering why a museum dedicated to the famed Spanish artist is located in Florida, USA, of all places, you’re not alone. I asked the same question when I visited The Dali and was treated to an intriguing historical tale. I’ve recounted the story here.

Meanwhile, the stunning, ultra-modern museum building that houses Dali’s extensive collection opened its doors in January, 2011. The superb architecture enhances Dali’s already eclectic art work. Prior to the 2011 building, the Dali Museum was housed in an old refurbished warehouse since 1982.

By great chance, I was in St. Pete at the time the new Dali Museum opened. As a great admirer of both Dali’s art and modern architecture, I visited the museum on numerous occasions, photographing the building, meandering through the galleries for hours on end, and browsing the superb gift shops for just as many hours.

I highly recommend anyone traveling through the Orlando – Tampa – ST Petersburg region of Florida to make a point of visiting this amazing museum with its world-class collection of Salvador Dali artworks.

This photo gallery is dedicated to the Dali Museum building, presenting over a dozen images of this astounding architectural marvel.
